Donna is the founder of a non-profit Waldorf-inspired private school in Hawaii where she lived for 24 years, while raising 4 children. She was also the first principal of a “Top 100 School” in Colorado where she led the elementary school for five years. During that time, this Core Knowledge School received repeated honors as a “School of Excellence.” She was also responsible for overseeing all Special Services including Gifted and Talented, Special Education, English Language Learners, Literacy (504s’), as well as K-12 arts programming.
As its Founder, Principal Donna designed and project-managed the construction of Malamalama Waldorf School K-8 in collaboration with philanthropic organizations and benefactors obtaining grants and generous in-kind support. She was admitted into “Who’s Who in Hawaii” becoming “Woman of the Year in Education” for Women’s History Week on Hawaii’s Big Island. Following a 16-year experience in Hawaii, she moved to Puget Sound – closer to her aging parents – where she worked at Seattle Waldorf School. There she assisted in the school’s expansion, participated on the Board of Directors, led the College of Teachers, all the while teaching grades 5 through 8! She created traditions and programs there that even today continue to enrich its middle school culture.
